Rising Stars Program

The Rising Stars Program is where young players aged 7–8 begin their football journey. It lays the foundation for entry into the Football Queensland (FQ) North Academy U9 Skill Acquisition Phase, the recognised pathway aligned with Football Federation Australia’s National Talent Identification Scheme.

What They’ll Learn

  • Core Skills: Striking the ball, first touch, 1 v 1 play, running with the ball.
  • Awareness Techniques: Scanning, positioning, and communication to build confidence and game understanding.
  • Game Intelligence: An introduction to Football Federation Australia’s Perception–Decision–Execution (PDE) model, teaching players how to read the game and make smart decisions to achieve successful outcomes in player-oriented and situational tasks.

One-on-One Lesson Requirement

Because of the young age of Rising Stars players, parents are required to enrol their child in at least one term of one-on-one lessons before transitioning into group sessions. These lessons are designed to accelerate growth and give each child the best possible start by:

  • Teaching movement fundamentals: Focusing on micro movements that build foot dexterity, speed, and coordination.
  • Improving focus: With fewer distractions, children learn to concentrate and absorb skills more effectively.
  • Positive reinforcement: Every achievement is celebrated, building confidence and enjoyment in learning.
  • Full attention: The coach’s undivided focus ensures tailored guidance, support and encouragement.
  • Learning at their pace: Children progress without pressure, laying a stronger foundation before joining group sessions.
  • Smooth transition to groups: By first practicing the fundamentals individually, players enter group lessons with increased confidence and readiness, resulting in greater enjoyment and progress.
  • The right way from the beginning: Parents can be assured their child is taught correctly from the start, building habits and skills that last a lifetime.

Many families choose to continue with one-on-one lessons beyond the first term, recognising the lasting benefits of accelerated growth, improved focus, and the strong foundation it provides for their child’s future development.

The Journey Ahead

By completing the Rising Stars Program, players are not just learning skills — they are building a solid foundation in technical core skills and game awareness that prepares them for a smooth transition into the FQ Academy. With confidence, game intelligence, and strong fundamentals, they will be ready to succeed at the next stage of their football journey.

Transition to Small Groups

After successful completion of their one-on-one lessons, players will then progress into small group sessions of 4–8 players, where they apply their skills in a supportive team environment. This step allows them to:

  • Practice their new techniques in dynamic, game-like situations.
  • Develop collaboration, communication, and situational awareness with peers.
  • Build confidence by applying their newly developed skill techniques to achieve player-oriented and situational tasks.

This gradual progression ensures children are never overwhelmed but instead grow steadily in confidence and enjoyment.
